2006 Relay for Life Ride

October 7, 2006

The Lawrence County chapter of the American Cancer Society sponsored a Relay for Life "Thunder in the Valley Poker Run". (Flyer) None of us had done a poker run before so we decided it would be fun, and for a good cause.

The weather was sunny and cold with temperatures in the high 40's as we left the house.

The poker run started at Johnny's Junxion in northern Lawrence County in the newly incorporated town of Judah (point A). Riders registered, talked, and prepared for the ride. Prizes were drawn. Here Mike shows his best side.

The first stop was at M&E Honda in Bedford (point B). They donated a few door prizes. I won a gift certificate. Mike drooled over the Goldwings.

The poker run headed west on US50 to Shoals then veered southeast down curvy and scenic US150. The ride ended in French Lick (point D) at a park shelter across from the French Lick Winery. We walked across the road to the winery while they prepared our lunch. After lunch we drew for more prizes. I won another gift certificate. The biker ho won a T-shirt. Mike met an old high school classmate who was also riding in the run.

There were about a dozen bikes in the run. I thought there would be more but I'm sure the cold weather kept some at home. The poker route was a nice ride. We took a different route (D-E-F) back to Bedford. They plan to have another run next year that we will probably do.
